The Teen House
is a teen-ran branch of our organization dedicated
to planning teen and patient engaging events. Founded
in January, they work The BASH Board to help fulfill
the group’s promises to the hospitals. Currently,
they are coordinating an April check presentation,
a patient teen prom and a CHLA Teen Impact retreat.

Nikki Volpert, a 16 year old junior at Harvard
Westlake School, is a new addition to the BASH
organization and is a co-founder of the new branch,
The Teen House. This branch focuses on small scale
projects designed to raise money for the hospital
while allowing teens and patients to connect with
each other on an intimate level. She has been
interested in helping the Childrens Hospitals
ever since her brother and cousins were diagnosed
with Tourettes Syndrome. Since going through her
emotional experience, she has wanted to help children
with more serious diseases overcome their hardships
and improve the experience and says she joined
the bash to, "first hand make the recovery
experience more comfortable for the teens and
provide them with fun events to keep them hopeful
and happy." Aside from being a BASH member,
she spends her time playing tennis, hanging out
with friends and family and studying in preparation
for college and the SAT. She's been told that
success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration
so that’s how she is approaching both the college
process and philanthropy…head on. Her goal is
to be able to settle into a career and college
that allows her to further her goal of making
in a difference in teens' lives while embracing
new opportunities.

Sara Khoshnood, 16, is a recent addition to The
BASH Organization and a founding member of The Teen
House. When asked why she wanted joined The Teen
House, she replied, “Im involved in “The Teen House”
because I love to help kids and am excited to be
able to give back to my community in a big way.
It sucks to see these teens, who are already going
through so much physically and emotionally, lacking
the comfort and fun elements they need to want to
overcome their illnesses. While I know the ill teens
are constrained in what they are able to do, I believe
they should be given as equal the chance to be happy
and connected to their friends as healthy teens”.
Through the Teen House, her goal is plan events
for patients that keep them connected to friends
and mentors outside of the hospital. In the future,
she would like to attend FIDM and become an interior
designer or wedding planner. Therefore, she believes,
““The Teen House” branch of The BASH is perfect
for me cause I LOVE planning events and making a
difference!” |
